A label is a preparation step
Creating a label provides shipping information and usually a tracking number. Printing it is another operational step. Neither action, by itself, confirms that the carrier has received the parcel.
Record the physical handoff
Separate parcels waiting for pickup from parcels already handed over. Keep the appropriate handoff record for the service used. A scan or status update may arrive later, so investigate the physical workflow as well as the tracking page.
Communicate what is known
Tell customers whether an order is being prepared, has been handed over or has a carrier-reported movement event. Avoid presenting an estimated delivery date as a guarantee.
For a parcel with no movement, check the label, staging area and handoff record before creating a replacement shipment. This helps avoid sending the same order twice.
